A Geosynthetic Clay Liner (GCL) is a composite hydraulic barrier consisting of a layer of high-swelling sodium bentonite enclosed between two geotextiles, bonded by needle-punching, stitching, or adhesion. Its core mechanism relies on the bentonite hydrating upon contact with water to form a dense, low-permeability gel, providing a self-sealing function. It is particularly suited for complex topographies and projects where substrate deformation is expected.
